I'm Rajesh Khanikar. I work in OT security for a renewable energy company, which mostly means thinking about how electricity gets to the grid — from solar plants, wind farms, hydro stations, batteries, and hybrid sites — without anyone breaking in along the way.

I've been doing some version of this for over twenty years, working my way from system engineer to Principal Architect across teams in Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas. My degree is in Industrial Instrumentation Engineering, which is useful to remember when an OT security problem turns out to be a physical-layer problem the network only inherits.

The day-to-day is a mix of architecture (modelled in ArchiMate), industrial protocols, identity and access on systems that were never built to think about identity, and the slow grind of getting compliance frameworks like IEC 62443 and NIS2 to mean something concrete on a hot enclosure thousands of kilometres south of here.

I live in a small village in Asker, Norway.

Outside of work, the bench is usually busy with one of four things: a programming project that started smaller than it ended; an electronics build that needed one more component an hour ago; something slow on the stove; or a fishing trip planned around weather I cannot control. Most of what gets written up here is cybersecurity-shaped, with the occasional detour into the other four when one of them produces a story worth keeping.
